Can Guinea Pigs Eat Hummus?

Hummus is a Levantine dip or spread made from cooked, mashed chickpeas or other beans, blended with tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and garlic.

It is popular in the Middle East and in Middle Eastern cuisine around the globe.

Unfortunately, it is not a good food for guinea pigs to eat due to its content and texture.

They cannot eat garlic and salt and chickpeas are not great for them either.

The texture of hummus is also not comfortable for guinea pigs to eat so they have to lick it.

It also holds no nutritional value for them

If they ate a little it wouldn’t harm them, but it isn’t a food that should be purposely be fed to guinea pigs.

Lemon Juice is a great addition to pancakes and other foods.

We have already looked at whether guinea pigs can eat lemons here. They were ok for guinea pigs to eat although we said that they should be eaten sparingly because of their acidity. Once a month at the most.

Can guinea pigs have lemon juice?

The thing with it is it is also way too acidic for guinea pigs to drink. If they do drink it, like us, they will get serious tummy trouble.

Guinea pigs should only drink water and don’t have the ability to take in other types of liquids.

Even lemon cordial or lemon squash is not good for them. It is too sweet, even when diluted with water. But not as bad as full on lemon juice.

So steer clear of it as a drink for them.
