Book Review: Guinea Pigloepaedia: a Complete Guide to Guinea Pigs

Whenever I do review posts, I only review books I have read, or items I have bought and tried out or been given. I only post about them if I can recommend them. If I can’t recommend them, I don’t blog about them. Mainly because I don’t like writing negative reviews.

So here’s a book I bought early on this year and I have found so, so helpful.

Guinea Piglopaedia: a Complete Guide to Guinea Pigs (Complete Guide To… (Ringpress Books))

I bought this book after reading some reviews as the synopsis promised it would be;
‘packed with expert advice and information on every aspect of caring for these delightful animals, presented in a straightforward, easily accessible format.’

It does just that with 179 pages chock full of valuable information about guinea pigs.

Written by Margaret Elward and Mette Ruelkke it is spread over 11 chapters of information to help owners look after their guinea pigs in a thorough and competent way. Its content includes;

The history of the guinea pig
Choosing a guinea pig
Housing your cavy
Feeding your cavy
Guinea pig care
Anatomy and physiology
A-Z  of guinea pig health problems
Guinea pig varieties
Breeding cavies
Showing your cavy

Its very comprehensive with a a lot of information that you will need to look after your piggies.

The information and expertise is available on every different aspect of caring for piggies and written in a way that is accessible and straightforward.

The anatomy and physiology section are espepecally useful and contain a lot of detailed information about how guinea pigs are. The a-z of health problems are also very helpful, giving a comprehensive overview of the kind of ailments that guinea pigs will encounter.

I refer to it a lot and I often leaf through it especially with regards to the chapters I have mentioned above.

It doesn’t contain a lot of photographs, relying on description and diagrams a lot, but it does contain come very cute photos in its image section.

What I found helpful was especially the sections on healthcare, diseases and disoders which are very thorough.

The other sections are also pretty helpful as well and is a fantastic guide to keep at your fingertips giving great advice for beginners or more experienced owners.

It is well worth having in your book collection.

I bought my copy at amazon and you can too, here
