We have corn around a lot and eat it often for meals. It is quite a broad based food and there are all kinds of parts of the corn on the cob that are used in foods across the world.

This is the type of sweetcorn that we have often. However, tinned sweetcorn contains a lot of salt so is not good for guinea pigs. So steer clear.

Can guinea pigs eat cooked sweetcorn?

Cooked food can’t be digested by guinea pigs so steer clear of feeding it to them.

Can guinea pigs eat corn leaves?

Yes they can but only give them the inner leaves, throw out the outer leaves because of pesticide use.

Yes the husks are fine for guinea pigs, and in fact they can be eaten by them on a daily basis. Chuck out the outer husks and give them the inner softer leaves as they are the most tasty and tender. They are very similar in nutrient content to grass and hay in that they have a high fibre content and not much protein in them. Try and dry them if possible and then shred them by hand so that they are easier for the guinea pigs to digest.

  1. Around my school, there are vendors that sells boiled corn and some tendency to boil the entire corn (husk and all). Is it alright to feed boiled corn husk to my guinea pigs?
